General

What is VaultX?+

VaultX is a secure file sharing and document vault platform. It lets you create shareable upload links so clients, colleagues, or anyone else can send you files directly — without needing to create an account. You can also upload files yourself and share download links with others.

Who is VaultX for?+

VaultX is built for anyone who needs to receive or share files professionally — accountants collecting tax documents, lawyers gathering case files, freelancers receiving client assets, agencies managing deliverables, and businesses that need a secure way to receive documents from clients.

Do my clients need to create an account to send me files?+

No. Your clients just click the upload link you share with them and drag their files in. No signup, no app download, no friction. This is one of the most important things VaultX does differently.

Is VaultX really free?+

Yes. VaultX is free to use. You can create upload links, receive files from clients, and share documents at no cost. There is no credit card required to get started.

Security

How secure is file upload on VaultX?+

All file transfers use TLS (HTTPS) so data is encrypted in transit. Files are stored on AWS S3 with server-side AES-256 encryption, so they are encrypted at rest too. API keys are stored as SHA-256 hashes — never in plaintext.

Can I password-protect my upload links?+

Yes. When creating an upload link you can add an optional password. Only people who know the password can access that link — keeping different clients' portals completely separate.

Who can see the files in my vault?+

Only you (the account owner) can access your vault. Files uploaded through your links are private by default — they are only visible when you explicitly share a download link with someone.

Does VaultX sell or share my data?+

No. We do not sell your data or your clients' data to third parties. We do not scan the contents of uploaded files for advertising. Uploaders are never asked to create an account so their personal data is never collected.

What file types are blocked?+

VaultX blocks executable and script file types at the API level — including .exe, .js, .sh, and other dangerous MIME types. This validation happens server-side before files reach storage.

Files & Uploads

Is there a file size limit?+

No. VaultX has no file size restrictions. You can receive and upload files of any size — large PDFs, video files, raw photos, database exports — without needing to split or compress them.

What file types does VaultX accept?+

VaultX accepts all common file types including documents (PDF, Word, Excel), images, videos, audio, archives (ZIP, RAR), and more. The only files blocked are executables and scripts (.exe, .sh, .js, etc.) for security reasons.

How many upload links can I create?+

You can create as many upload links as you need — one per client, one per project, or one per job. There is no limit on the number of links.

Can I download files that were uploaded to my links?+

Yes. All files uploaded through your links appear in your VaultX dashboard. You can download them individually at any time.

Sharing

How do I share a file with someone?+

Upload a file to your vault via the My Uploads section, then use the share button to generate a download link. The recipient just needs the link — no account required.

Can I revoke access to a shared link?+

Yes. You can disable or delete shared document links from your dashboard at any time. Once disabled, the link stops working immediately.

Can I use VaultX via an API?+

Yes. VaultX supports API uploads using Bearer tokens or X-API-Key headers. You can also use presigned URLs for direct-to-S3 uploads from your own applications. API keys use the vx_live_* prefix and are SHA-256 hashed at rest.
